OFFICIAL WILD ANGLE PHOTO CONTEST RULES
SPONSORS Sponsors are National Geographic Society, 1145 17TH Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036- 4688 (“NGS”) and Adventures in Travel Expo, 488 Wheelers Farms Road, Milford, CT, 06461, (collectively, the “Sponsors”).
TERM The Wild Angle Photo Contest (“Contest”) begins January 10, 2009 and ends December 6, 2009. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. EST, December 6, 2009.
WHO MAY ENTER Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States, excluding Puerto Rico, who are age eighteen (18) or above at the time of entry and who are participants in the 2008 Adventures in Travel Expo. Employees of National Geographic Society, Adventures in Travel Expo, Unicomm and their agents, affiliates, and subsidiaries and their immediate family members are not eligible. Limit one entry per person.
HOW TO ENTER NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY AND A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. This Contest is VOID IN PUERTO RICO AND WHERE PROHIBITED.
- Submit an 8”x10” print of a photograph you have taken that captures the spirit of adventure, along with a 3x5 note card including a photograph title, description of subject and equipment used, plus your name, address, and telephone number. The photograph must be your own original work.
- Only one (1) photograph per photographer may be submitted.
- Entries must be received by 5 p.m. EST December 6, 2009. Submit at the National Geographic Adventure booth at the Adventures in Travel Expos at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Chicago on January 10-11, 2009; in Southern California at the LA Convention Center, February 14-15, 2009; in Washington, DC at the Washington Convention Center, February 21-22, 2009; at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on October 10-11, 2009; or in Seattle at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, December 5-6, 2009.
- Entries become the property of the Sponsors and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entries may be used for promotional use, as specified in “Licenses” below.
- Upon Sponsors’ request, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, authorizing use of the photograph in Sponsors marketing and promotions. Failure to provide such a release upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud; provided that entrants must be prepared to provide a release form as described below in “Release”. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close up of another person’s art.

The photo, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph.

Obscene, provocative, or otherwise objectionable content will not be considered, and such determination is solely at the discretion of Sponsors.
RELEASE
- Upon Sponsors’ request, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, authorizing use of the photograph by any Sponsor, and/or its licensees, affiliates or designees (the “Authorized Parties”) in editorial publications, marketing and promotions in any and all media. Similarly, upon Sponsors’ request, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written release from the copyright owner of any sculpture, artwork or other copyrighted material that appears in the photograph entry, authorizing use of the photograph by any Authorized Party in editorial publications, marketing and promotions in any and all media. All releases must be in the form provided by Sponsors. Failure to provide such releases upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Blank release forms are available at the Adventure booth at each show.
CONTEST PRIZES
- Grand Prize: Trip for two to an adventure destination.
- 10 Runner-up Prizes: Apparel provided by ExOfficio.
JUDGING

A panel of publishing and travel experts, including a National Geographic Adventure photographer will judge entries based on subject matter, composition, photographic skill, originality, and creativity.

Winners will be notified by mail.

Decisions of the judges are final.

Contest consists of one round. The same judging criteria will apply to each round.
LICENSE Selected entries may be published by either Sponsor, or their licensees, affiliates or designees (the “Authorized Parties”) in print, on the web, or in any other medium, in Authorized Parties’ discretion. By participating, all entrants grant a license in the entries to Authorized Parties, and acknowledge that Authorized Parties may use the entries in any media now or hereafter known, without restriction, including commercially using and exploiting the entries to fullest extent possible. Authorized Parties will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use or exploitation. Additionally, by participating, each entrant grants to Authorized Parties the unrestricted right to use all statements made in connection with the Contest, and pictures or likeness of Contest participants, or choose not to do so, at their sole discretion. No Authorized Party will be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use or exploitation.
RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsors that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Sponsors reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tampers with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If Sponsors elect to cancel or terminate the Contest, Sponsors will not retain any rights in the submitted photographs.
CONDITIONS Entries void if illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft. Winners are required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and liability release, and a warranty of ownership and license, within 15 days of receipt of prize notification. Noncompliance or return of prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and selection of another winner.
By participating, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.
Participants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless National Geographic Society, Adventures in Travel Expo, Unicomm, and their partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. For names of winners send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: National Geographic Society, 1145 17th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036, ATTN: A. Serio, Rm. 392. (Residents of Vermont need not include postage.) This Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Certain restrictions may apply.
