With the economy in a state of flux determined travelers have become quite conscientious as to how they select, plan, and pay for their trips. Smart preparation and budget friendly travel options seem the best way to keep global trekkers on the go. The challenge can be where to start the planning process.
Enter the Travel & Adventure Show; this consumer based travel expo has become the largest and longest running series of adventure travel shows in the US. With stops in LA, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington DC and Chicago, it is very accessible to any travel enthusiast or adventurous family seeking a unique, fun experience at home or abroad.
At the show, attendees meet thousands of travel providers and tourism board members offering a plentitude of vacation options and travel information. The expo, as well, providing a full itinerary of informative seminars, hands on activities, and cultural performances. Speakers include experienced travel advocates such as Arthur Frommer (Frommer’s Budget Travel Magazine), Rick Steves (Host, Writer, Producer PBS’ Rick Steve’s Europe), and Amanda Pressner (Travel Journalist and Co-Author The Lost Girls) to name just a few.I recently attended The Travel & Adventure Show in Chicago. In between camel rides, dance performances on the global beats stage, and dives in the scuba pool, I was actually able to speak with representatives from countries such as Fiji, Panama, Belize, Mongolia, Thailand, China, Costa Rica, Belize, and beyond. In talking with them, I realized this show is ideal for countries looking to directly connect with people and provide incentives, resources, and opportunities for motivated and curious travelers.
Here is what Viviana Rudin – Costa Rica Tourism Board had to say:
“For the Costa Rica Tourist Board, it is important to participate in tradeshows like the Adventure Expo because it allows us to develop a direct relationship with those travelers that are interested in coming to the country. When this happens, you get to better know what their concerns, questions and needs are when it comes to information about the destination. At the end of the day, our presence is incredibly important because our prospective tourists are looking for an official source of information that will allow them to plan and make decisions about their trip.”
New initiatives are being put in place to better promote travel into America as well. I recently listened on NPR, as they discussed the Obama administrations plans to implement strategies to further market and support international tourism into the US. The Corporation of Travel Promotion has been organized to do just this. They are currently implementing programs to showcase the countries abundant history and highlight the many beautiful landmarks and parks for international tourists to enjoy
Thus, as we plan our preferred ‘getaway’ there is much to consider in keeping our travel safe, affordable, and purposeful. And in choosing to travel, we choose to support our global economy and community. With smart planning, and appropriate resources we can enjoy a custom tailored trip of a lifetime based on our interests and needs. The many travel and tourism websites, tour operators, and shows such as The Travel & Adventure Show provide us many choices to make these travel dreams a reality!
