Experience the Adventures in Travel Expo 2008:
Active and Experiential Travel From Across the Country
and Around the World

January 26 and 27 at The Donald E. Stephens Convention Center

New York City, NY, January 15, 2008 – Discover the abundant and exciting choices available in today’s active and adventure travel marketplace when The Adventures in Travel Expo (ATE) pulls in to Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, January 26 and 27, 2008. For two days, Chicago’s adventure travelers will be able to explore the extraordinary travel options available on each of the seven continents without leaving the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The Adventures in Travel Expo is the world’s largest active and adventure travel show.

The hottest vacation trends will be showcased at ATE this year. From train trips through Mexico’s Copper Canyon to safaris in the Serengeti, fat tire biking in South Dakota to farm stays in Australia, bird watching in Israel to horseback riding in Kentucky, trekking in Bhutan to cultural tours in Turkey – it’s all here. Attendees will find thousands of experts from around the planet ready to assist in planning their next vacation of a lifetime. Travelers can even reserve a trip themselves through booking stations hosted by Liberty Travel located right on the show floor.

Attendees may sit in on seminars by some of the world’s most renowned explorers at the National GeographicADVENTURE Theatre. The line-up includes writer/photographer Christopher Percy Collier, who will discuss Adventure Tribes, National Geographic Adventure’s Adventurer of the Year for 2007, Andrew Skurka, who completed an epic 6,875 mile solo hike known as the Great Western Loop, and Costas Christ, global travel columnist and co-founder and past International Ecotourism Society, who will discuss “Travel Green: How to Have the Trip of a Lifetime and Help Protect the Earth.”

Additional Exp sessions include such travel dignitaries as Pauline Frommer of Frommers Budget Travel and Frommers Guide Books and Brian Rosborough, founder of Earthwatch Institute – both of whom will deliver keynote speeches for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. They will be followed by experts such as Marybeth Bond, “The Gutsy Traveler” and author of the new book, Best Girlfriend Getaways, and other speakers who will present a host of live destination seminars.

What sets ATE apart from other travel shows is the interactive adventure experience. The event aims to bring that interaction to the show floor with a range of activities such as lively, cultural performances on the Global Beats Stage, including belly dancers, a steel drum band, and performers from Ecuador. Attendees may “fly” on an aerial zip line, swing through an adventure ropes course, dive in a huge heated scuba pool and hang ten on the surf simulator – all while learning about the perfect getaway for the whole family.

“The biggest trend in travel today is active and experiential vacations. Increasingly, consumers are seeking active, adventure, educational and experiential travel over traditional resorts or

group bus tours. All our research indicates that attendees see themselves not as tourists but as voyagers, and ATE offers the type of trips that fit perfectly with the alternative to bus tours and straight leisure travel,” noted John Golicz, CEO of Unicomm, Expo organizer. “Adventure travel is all about sight-doing, instead of sight-seeing, and our show has a trip for every person and every budget.”

The Adventures in Travel Expo is open to the public on Saturday, January 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, January 27 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is located at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont. Adult admission is $15 per day; children under 16 are free when accompanied by an adult. ATE is presented by the Chicago Tribune with national magazine sponsor, National Geographic ADVENTURE magazine and supporting sponsors the Travel Channel and Disney Vacation Club.
