Hail a Cab to the Hudson—Find a Vacation of a Lifetime
Experience the Adventures in Travel Expo 2008:
Active and Experiential Travel From Across the Country and Around the World
January 12 and 13 at Pier 94
New York City, NY, January 7, 2008 – For two days in January, adventure travelers will have the experience of exploring extraordinary travel options to each of the seven continents, simply by finding their way to Pier 94 – the exciting UnCovention Center on the Hudson. Adventures in Travel Expo (ATE), the world’s largest active and adventure travel show, transforms New York City’s Pier 94 on Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, 2008, into a discovery of the abundant and exciting choices available in today’s adventure travel marketplace.
ATE showcases every form of today’s hottest vacation trends—from elephant treks in India to regattas in Grenada, hiking in Pennsylvania to scuba diving in the Caribbean, wildlife tours in Alaska, backpacking in South Africa to cultural tours in China, attendees will find thousands of experts from around the planet ready to assist in planning their next vacation of a lifetime. Travelers can even reserve a trip themselves through booking stations hosted by Liberty Travel and Adventure Engine located right on the show floor.
Adventures in Travel Expo brings the world to New York. Attendees can listen in on seminars by some of the world’s most renown explorers at the National Geographic ADVENTURE Theatre. There are live destination seminars that help travelers choose and plan the perfect escape. Hundreds of exhibitors including resorts, tour operators, and tourism officials from around the world will help travelers find the right destination – and right balance of relaxation and activity for their next vacation.
The definition of today’s adventure travel is any tourist activity that includes physical activity, a cultural interchange or interaction with nature. And what truly sets ATE apart from other travel shows is the interactive adventure experience. There are live cultural performances and ongoing seminars throughout both days. Attendees can “fly” on an aerial zip line, swing through an adventure ropes course, dive in a huge scuba pool and climb a rock wall all while learning about the perfect get away for the whole family.
From the minute you enter the hall you’ll hear the call of the Global Beats Stage— with live Cuban & Brazilian performer, African drummers, Israeli musicians and a Caribbean steel orchestra all make for a birds eye view of music represented by destinations exhibiting at the event.
Once again, ATE’s brings some of the worlds most celebrated travel and adventure experts to the stage, with seminars including Keynote speaker Arthur Frommer, Richard Weise, former president, Explorer’s Club and host of PBS “Exploration with Richard Weise,” and Kurt and Franz Wisner, authors of Honeymoon with My Brother. The National Geographic ADVENTURE Theatre will feature an exciting line-up of speakers to include preeminent photographer Gordon Wiltsie, who will feature works from his new book To The Ends of the Earth: Adventures of an Expedition Photographer, National Geographic Adventure’s Adventurer of the Year for 2007, Andrew Skurka who completed an epic 6,875 mile solo hike known as the Great Western Loop, and columnist Costas Christ, a pioneer in ecotourism and co-founder and past President of the International Ecotourism Society, who will discuss “Travel Green: How to Have the Trip of a Lifetime and Help Protect the Earth.”
“The hottest trend in travel today is Active and Experiential vacations. Increasingly consumers are seeking active, adventure, educational and experiential travel over traditional resorts or group bus tours, ATE offers one-stop-shopping that fits perfectly with busy lifestyles,” noted John Golicz, CEO of Unicomm, Expo organizer. “Adventure travel is all about sight-doing, instead of sight-seeing, and our show has a trip for every person and every budget.”
The Adventures in Travel Expo is open to the public on Saturday, January 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, January 13 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is located at Pier 94, 755 12th Avenue, between 54th and 55th Streets, in New York City.
