Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show Now Largest Travel Show in the U.S.
Washington D.C. and Chicago round out top 3 shows for consumer attendance
April 16, 2013 – Unicomm LLC, organizers of the nation’s largest series of travel shows, announced today that its Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show® held at the Long Beach Convention Center this past January 12-13 set a new attendance record with nearly 29,000 travel enthusiasts, making it the largest travel show in the United States.
Additionally, show organizers announced record growth and attendance by their Chicago and Washington D.C. this year. Chicago with nearly 19,950 attendees grew by 13% and Washington D.C. with 20,409 attendees grew by 20% year over year. This growth solidifies DC and Chicago’s position as second and third largest consumer attended travel shows in the U.S.
“While of course quantity is important to us, we saw our primary goal of attendee demographic increase, stated said CEO John Golicz. “ Exhibitors reported heavy bookings, high educated interest and huge expectations of new business.”
Mari Masuda of Tahiti Tourisme N.A. also agreed stating, “The Travel & Adventure Show in Long Beach was phenomenal for us. We often had crowds around our booth with consumers waiting to speak with us. The consumers came prepared with serious questions on planning their next vacation to Tahiti!”
This sentiment was seconded by Katika Africa’s David Prescott, who was also impressed with the quality of the show’s attendees. “It was a good demographic for us and we got solid leads including conversations with a few high end luxury clients.”
CEO John Golicz attributed the success of this year’s shows to a combination of factors including the addition of new expert and celebrity headliners and content initiatives, increased exhibitor participation, and an expanded marketing campaign, which continued to increase attendance by travel enthusiasts in all markets.
Notable travel authorities who headlined the 2013 show series and spoke to standing room only audiences, some in excess of 1,000, as they offered travel inspiration and information included: Rick Steves, Andrew Zimmern, Pauline and Arthur Frommer, Peter Greenberg, Andrew McCarthy and Patricia Schultz.
However, the real stars of the shows are the over 700 travel companies who exhibit at the events and represent their destinations and products to our travel enthusiasts who are looking to plan and book their next trips.
“We are the only travel show organizer in the USA that works 365 days a year to put on quality shows where the right buyers get in front of the right sellers,” said Golicz. “When I hear about in-depth conversations between exhibitors and travelers leading to bookings, or exhibitors running out of material, or a tour operator leaving the show with valuable leads to follow up on, or attendees buying two day passes to get it all in, I know my team has done something right.”
For example, exhibitor Jennifer Zilioli from Go Ahead Tours had an incredible DC show. Zilioli stated, “We came back from the DC show with close to 700 leads for our sales team!”
Chris Kai'aokamalie with the Maui Visitor and Convention Bureau said, “The shows have been a really good way for us to outreach to potential visitors. The consumers here are more savvy and hungry for additional information.” He finished by saying, “The shows are top notch and 1st class.”
